Culzean Gardens offers visitors the enjoyment of a delightful garden in Westbury, northern Tasmania. The tranquil garden's centrepiece is a 1.2 hectare (3 acre) lake surrounded by thousands of water irises and water fowl in season. During summer there are also beautiful water lilies. The Anglo-Indian style house on the property was built in 1841. Mature exotic trees and hundreds of different conifers are the background to a changing display. If you come in the Spring time you will see hectares of spring bulbs, including daffodils, bluebells and wood anemones. Overlapping this display and running through to November, is a burst of rhododendrons and azaleas, which in turn blend into the flowering season for hundreds of roses in November and December and again from February to March. Culzean Gardens is open by appointment. While you are in Westbury be sure to visit the White House Museum, Westbury Maze and Pearn's world famous Steam World. Spend an afternoon visiting the Tamar Valley wineries or book a Tamar River boat cruise. Head along the coast to the beaches of Devonport or take a tour through the Mole Creek Caves. Westbury is an easy 20-minute drive from Launceston (35 kilometres/22 miles).
